On 13 August 2025, the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) of United International University (UIU) & the Centre for Energy Research (CER) , in collaboration with the UIU Electrical and Electronic Club (UIUEEC), successfully organized an informative seminar titled “Renewable Resource Assessment Using GIS: Estimating Solar PV Potential in Bangladesh.”

The session was conducted by Dr. Mominul Hasan, one of UIU EEE’s proud alumni, who brings extensive expertise in solar PV, energy system modelling, and community-engaged learning. His recent PhD research explored unlocking Bangladesh’s solar PV deployment potential through policy and technological innovation

Dr. Mominul Hasan also shared his extensive expertise in the field of renewable energy and geographic information system (GIS) applications. Dr. Hasan elaborated on how GIS-based approaches can accurately assess solar photovoltaic (PV) potential in different regions of Bangladesh, enabling policymakers, researchers, and investors to make data-driven decisions for sustainable energy development.

A highlight of the seminar was Dr. Hasan’s discussion on Germany’s renewable energy journey, where he presented comparative insights into the German approach to solar energy integration. This segment provided attendees with a global perspective, showcasing successful policy frameworks, technological innovations, and implementation strategies that Bangladesh could adopt to accelerate its renewable energy transition.

Also present at the event were Dr. Kaled Masukur Rahman, Professor and Head of the Department of EEE, and Mr. Md. Shahriar Ahmed Chowdhury, Assistant Professor of EEE and Director of CER. Both shared inspiring remarks, encouraging students to actively engage in research and innovation in renewable energy to contribute to a sustainable future for Bangladesh.

The interactive session allowed participants to engage directly with the speaker, asking questions related to both local and international renewable energy practices. Students, faculty members, and renewable energy enthusiasts attended the seminar, gaining valuable academic and practical knowledge.

The event concluded with a note of appreciation to Dr. Mominul Hasan for his enlightening presentation and to all participants for their active involvement. The seminar reaffirmed UIU’s commitment to fostering awareness, research, and innovation in the field of renewable energy, paving the way for a greener, cleaner future.
